Full Question: You point out that data-teams and teachers using an evidence-based model has a high impact however, I am unable to find your thoughts on professional development in data analysis. I work in a school where some staff are very comfortable looking at data and gathering supporting evidence for enhancing student achievement; then there are other teachers who have no idea. I guess I am asking if you think there should be opportunities for staff to learn how to do this?
Answer: “As a measurement and data person, I have spent a lot of my career indeed doing just this--over the past two decades have moved more to demanding we psychometricians use more teacher language as teach them our language is all up hill. Hence, the emphasis more on the quality of interpretations and less the data (although the data still have to be excellent). The 'data-wise' move is very good and a great and like book and approach. There are no meta-analyses on this topic, hence missing from Visible Learning; not because it is unimportant” (John Hattie, personal communication, December 23, 2018).
